Meet Gareth our fantastically efficient finance assistant here at the Vale Resort. Our finance team are a pivotal part that keeps the Vale Resort machine running and we think you should get to know them a little better!
Once I finished my A Levels I decided I would like to pursue a career in Accounting. My father worked as a Finance Director and I saw it as a good career to pursue. I went to Aberystwyth University to study Accounting & Finance. After graduating I worked in Finance departments at a few different companies and industries before arriving at the Resort just under two years ago. The main responsibilities of my role here include reporting weekly revenue figures for the Health & Racquets club, collating and auditing payroll costings for our Food and Beverage division, reconciling the bank account and various other balance sheet reconciliations including Fixed Assets and Prepayments.
I enjoy the daily challenges of working at a fast-paced Resort and no one day is the same. There are always areas to analyse and investigate. I work with some great people who bring lots of laughter and fun to the office and who have appointed me as their social president! I’m responsible for organising social events for the Finance team to enjoy our latest activity was walking Wye Valley Mighty Hike for Macmillan.
In my spare time, I am a rugby referee for the WRU. Most of my Saturday afternoons are spent doing this. When I’m not refereeing I am normally watching Pontypridd RFC. I have been doing this since a young age. In the summer I play cricket for my local cricket club. It’s a nice way to enjoy the nice summer weather. I enjoy going out for meals with my girlfriend and watching various sports with my brother. I also enjoy travelling, it is a big world out there and I would like to experience as much of it as possible.
The Lighthouse Family, this reminds me of being young and careless! Something I try to keep hold of as an adult when life gets a little bit too serious.
I have only been at the Resort for two years but feel I have developed and progressed in a short period of time. My aim is to complete my ACCA qualification and to continue to develop my career here at the Vale Resort.
